Problem: You cannot receive email when Virgin Media Security is running.

Cause: The Virgin Media Security Anti-Virus will scan your incoming email attachments for viruses using an incoming mail proxy. This can cause conflicts with other pre-existing mail proxies. These types of proxies are usually installed by another Anti-Virus application or an anti-spam application. Two prominent examples of such applications are Norton Anti-Spam and McAfee Spam-Killer.

Resolution: Disable or remove any other Anti-Spam or Anti-Virus programs. If none are found or if the problem persists after removing them, disable the incoming email scanning feature in Virgin Media Security.

  1. Ensure there are no other Anti-Virus or Anti-Spam programs installed.
  2. Open Virgin Media Security.
  3. Click Anti-Virus then Preferences.
  4. Clear the Scan incoming emails and attachments option.
  5. You should now be able to receive their email and attachments.

Note: Even if the Scan incoming emails and attachments option is not selected, infected attachments will be detected by the Anti-Virus Real-time Protection service when the file is accessed.
