I cannot browse when Virgin Media Security is running. I have verified the Parental Control and Firewall settings. What should I do?

Solution: Reset Firewall settings

  1. On the Firewall home page, click Preferences.
  2. Click Restore Defaults and ensure both restore options are selected, then click OK.
  3. Try to browse once more.

If the problem persists, select  Virgin Media Security then Shut down. Next, delete the firewall.dat configuration file.

To delete de Firewall.dat file:

Windows XP

  1. Go to My Computer , select Tools at the top and then Folder Options.
  2. Choose the View tab and make sure that Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
  3. Now go back to My Computer and select the C drive under Hard Disk Drive.
  4. Click Document and Settings, select All Users then click Application Data.
  5. Click Virgin then Virgin Media Security.
  6. Delete the Firewall.dat file and then restart Virgin Media Security.

Note: If you do not see Application Data ensure that steps 3 and 4 were done correctly.

Complete Path: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Virgin\Virgin Media Security

Windows Vista/Windows 7

  1. Go to Start, click Control Panel then Folder Options.
  2. Choose the View tab and make sure that Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
  3. Now go back to My Computer and select the C drive under Hard Disk Drive.
  4. Click ProgramDataVirgin then Virgin Media Security folder.
  5. Delete Firewall.dat  file and then restart Virgin Media Security.

Note: If you do not see ProgramData, ensure that steps 3 and 4 were done correctly.
